The South Place Chop House is situated in The South Place Hotel- an upmarket hotel close to Moorgate tube station with all the facilities of a larger scale hotel but the attention to detail of a boutique. Its Chop House serves up sublime cuts of meat and British classics, while the Secret Garden is an oasis of calm in the heart of the City perfect for drinks and events after work.
OVERALL RATING: *****
What to expect:
Good old-fashioned classic British fare in an upscale setting, with exceptionally attentive service.
When to head there:
For after-work drinks or food. Friday nights have the best atmosphere.
What to wear:
Smart yet unpretentious – you’d fit in with the suit you wore to work just as you would a chic dress.
How to get there:
It's just around the corner from Moorgate tube station, near our Broadgate studio.
Amanda: The staff at South Place Hotel are genuinely kind, welcoming and warm and each person went out of their way to make our experience exceptional. The restaurant is both seductive & stylish in an unpretentious way and the food was delicious. We ended our night in the upstairs bar area dancing to Groove Armada’s live performance – the atmosphere was incredible and it was the most fun I have had in a long time.
Rosie: I knew my night was going to be good when I was presented with a gin menu and the waiter was extremely informative about my favourite gin, despite it being difficult to find in this country. Things got better and better as I worked my way through dishes that included a classic prawn cocktail drenched in decadent Marie Rose sauce, and a ridiculously large fillet steak cooked to perfection. An oozing chocolate fondant would have been the grand finale, were it not for a concert upstairs by Groove Armada in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. With a spectacular light show and an amazing DJ set, we did enough dance moves to work up an appetite for a second round in the restaurant, had we not partied until the early hours of the morning.
