REBEL WITH A CAUSE. //

It's that time of year when Londoners take to the streets and run 26 miles across the city. The London Marathon is here. The big day takes place this Sunday 24th, and we know that lots of you Rebels have been training hard, in and out of the studios, in preperation for the race.

"Last year I ran my first half marathon and in the giddy euphoria of my runner's high decided I should sign up for a whole one. yes, the London Marathon itself. I also wanted to make sure I ran for a cause I believed in, and contacted Pahar Trust Nepal to enter the ballot. And much to our delight we got a space!

Long distance running does not come naturally to me. I like to get it done and get it done fast.. so the long run is a huge personal challenge for me! It's battle of the mind, and the first 5 miles are still the worst for me. I've had to push myself to be more focused, to be kinder to my body, harder on my body and also listen to what it will and what it won't and accept that some days it just doesn't quite go how you want it to!

The charity I chose is a cause very close to my heart- being half nepalese and having spent my childhood in Nepal, I know only too well how important education is and how many doors it can open for future generations there. Pahar Trust builds schools in remote parts of Nepal. The money I raise will in fact go towards reconstructing a new school at Shampokharai, West Nepal. The foundation for the new building was laid last week and the whole school community is excited about having new school in the near future after the devastation from earthquake.

Education is something I believe every individual should have a right to, and I'm proud to be running for such a deserving cause. Those who have visited Nepal will know what a beautiful kingdom it is, and how humble, kind and generous the people are. I'd love to have the support from you Rebels- no matter how large or small it all counts!

Training has been a long and gruelling process and I know that lots of you Rebels have been working hard to get ready for this Sunday. Here are 10 things I've learnt whilst trying to train for a marathon on a tight schedule of teaching, filming and juggling two lives across two continents the past couple months.

 

1. Don't skimp on strength- all that ass-blasting has paid off- I run for longer with less niggles and feel far stronger. Also, slightly bigger butt #win. 

2. Hydrate. A lot. And don't run hungover. Even if you can. 

3. Running is easier and less painful if you make friends with that bitch the foamroller and a lacrosse ball. Go on a stretch date with them before the run.

4. Speed and Hill training becomes actual fun compared to the long runs.

5. Sleep. Recovery is not my strong point, and this has been a steep learning curve. Good recovery= better performance.

6. A damn good playlist. Then pretend you're in a movie and dramatic things are happening. That's why you're running. In the damn rain. On a Sunday morning.

7. Good running shoes & good carbs= win

8. A lot of sexy people run along the canals. Fact. Most of them don't get lost like me though. 

9. Don't overdo it. Just don't. The big one for me- start slower than you want to! Slow and steady.

10. Mind over matter. That's all it comes down to."
